Terms of Service
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of BuzzBowl. By accessing or using BuzzBowl, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
1. Service Overview
BuzzBowl is a Scholars Bowl platform where hosts create games, players join by code, teams compete with live buzz-ins, and answers can be judged with AI support.
The service includes account-based and guest access, real-time game updates, audio transcription, AI judging, and score reporting.
2. Eligibility and Accounts
You must be legally permitted to use online services in your jurisdiction. You may join signed-in or as a guest. You are responsible for all activity under your account or guest session.
If you host games involving minors, you are responsible for obtaining any permissions required by your school, district, guardian, or applicable law.
3. Game Codes and Access Control
Games can be joined by entering a valid game code. Treat game codes as shared access credentials. Anyone with the code may be able to join and participate until removed by the host or until game rules prevent joining.
4. Your Content and Conduct
You are responsible for all content you submit, including display names, manual host instructions, spoken answers, and challenge arguments. You agree not to submit unlawful, abusive, harassing, infringing, or otherwise harmful content.
Do not include sensitive personal data in prompts, names, or spoken submissions unless you have a lawful basis and consent to do so.
5. AI-Generated and AI-Judged Features
BuzzBowl uses AI services for question generation, answer/challenge judging, speech-to-text transcription, and text-to-speech. AI output may be inaccurate, incomplete, or inappropriate in some cases.
You acknowledge that AI-assisted judging and generated content are provided for gameplay convenience and may not be error-free. Hosts are responsible for supervising use in their sessions.
6. Third-Party Services
BuzzBowl relies on third-party providers, including Clerk (authentication), Neon Postgres (data storage), OpenAI (AI/audio processing), and Ably (real-time messaging). Your use of BuzzBowl also involves processing by those providers under their respective terms and privacy policies.
7. Intellectual Property
The BuzzBowl service, software, branding, and underlying materials are protected by intellectual property laws. Except for rights explicitly granted to you for normal use of the service, no additional rights are transferred.
8. Suspension and Termination
We may suspend or terminate access, remove content, or limit features if we reasonably believe there is misuse, abuse, legal risk, security risk, or violation of these Terms.
9. Warranty Disclaimer
BuzzBowl is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and uninterrupted availability.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, BuzzBowl and its operators are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, reputation, profits, or business opportunities arising from use of or inability to use the service.
11. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless BuzzBowl and its operators from claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses arising from your content, your use of the service, or your violation of these Terms.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Updated Terms are effective when posted on this page with a revised date. Continued use after updates means you accept the revised Terms.
13. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction where the BuzzBowl service operator is established, without regard to conflict of law principles.
14. Contact
If you have legal questions about these Terms, contact the BuzzBowl operator using the support channel provided with this deployment.
